Steve Ialso have a PK-232MBX and I worked it with Land Link and some other program, with very good results, but frankly, once I found out about an alternative, I put all that aside. Let me explain. Some time ago, I heard about the possibility of working PACKET 'directly' from your computer without the need of the PK-232. I was a little skeptical but I was willing to give it a try. Steve, HAMSCOPE, is a free program you can download to work a host of different modes, to include PACKET, RTTY, CW, and some other free programs.

There are some further instructions on how to ACTIVATE the PACKET program and very easy to follow. Of course to use HAMSCOPE you will need the same Interface you use to work PSK31,SSTV, and others. There are instructions on the Internet, and the ARRL Ham Manual, on how to build your own Interface. The one using is from RIGBLASTER, but there are some other ones. Once you getit all setup, you will see how 'much more uncomplicated' operating those other modes could be. Incidentally, HAMSCOPE, is not just one of a kind, there are some other similar host programs, but HAMSCOPE is the only one I am familiar with. In addition, you can download into HAMSCOPE, a free Log program which you can use as you work the contact station. This program is very manageable and easy to use, as well as reliable. The key to the whole thing is to make sure you create a separate folder where to download all those programs. They all must be in the same folder with HAMSCOPE to be happy and work as they should with the host program. If you opt for this alternative, make sure to print all the instructions and follow them carefully. Also, make sure you download just the PACKET ENGINE, and the RTTY ENGINE form those two respective programs.
You can still download the last versions of their software: ON6MU has a nice Packet program called UISS for Space usage of Packet, but I think he uses the AGWPE packet engine. You may also consider MSYS, an older DOS based packet software that was very popular when packet was in heavy use. You can download it at the following website. It will work fine with the PK232MBX but you must read the readme and help files so you understand how to configure it to provide the packet features you are looking for. MSYS will also run NETNODE using a net assigned IP address. I've run that before and it does an excellent job. Click on the most recent version, version 119. Read all of the USER manual and SYSOP files to learn how to configure MSYS.

Make note of the baud rate, bits, and stop bits, the terminal program you are using, such as Windows Hyperterm, then replace the jumper on the bottom of the PK232 through the small hole. The PK232 will retain the RS-232 setting and when turned on the next time, will communicate using that baud rate, bits, and stop bit settings.
