Think about that for a minute! I have to say no, you cannot do this. It may be possible but not without a lot of pain and extra expense. I have installed hundreds of fans. You may possibly be able to shorten the pipe that holds the fan but to actually mount it to the ceiling? You will have to have the ceiling hardware to do this. There goes the price benefit even if you can find the proper adapter/ceiling hardware.

You can try taking the batteries back out of the remote and then shutting off the breaker to the ceiling fan to completely disconnect electrical power. Leave the power off for 5 minutes and the reset the breaker to restore power. According to your details, the fan likely has an electronic control board since it does not have programming switches. Completely shutting off the electrical power may reboot the electronic control board so that it operates properly. Put the batteries back into the remote and see if it works. If not, then you apparently have a problem with the remote or the control board in the fan.

A new remote or new Grandson? For the remote you can try Lowes or Home Depot. They have a small display of handheld remotes for ceiling fans and remotes for overhead lights. I looked up the brand and Crosswinds is carried by Lowes. I hope my solution is very helpful and that the remote will be reasonable priced.

The model number you gave did not come up in our information system. The Sears Kenmore model numbers will usually have three digits and a dot and then the rest of the model number.
